Floral Demonstration at The Gables Hotel

Posted by Ophelia Harry on 25th Jul 2018

What a relaxing and enjoyable start to the working week. Tracy was demonstrating at The Gables Hotel on a sunny Monday morning. As a team we packed everything up and went on our way.

This was nothing new for Tracy so un-phased she began to set up. She began to reveal a mixture of exciting and unusual vases, structures and planters. The giant foot got people talking as they started to take their seats. Tracy began with the foot, lining it with cellophane, inserting a cut block of foam, half in half out. Effortlessly Tracy positioned the flowers in the foam, explaining the best way to cut the stems as she went. Tracy’s design was tall with a gentle curve, created through the focal flower stepping down and around the design like a spiral staircase. The base of the design has fern leaves to hide the mechanics of the foam, being careful not to overpower the design and make it feel heavy.

The designs went on to wow the audience, with at least one point of structural interest in each design. Tracy showed the crowd a couple of plain vases and simple ways to make the overall designs pop, more so than an average arrangement in a vase. Along with the structures came clever points.

Making a wooden grill to rest over your vase looks intriguing, but it also separates your flowers and foliage. This helps keep the design in place and straight. The woods thickness decreases the space to be filled in the vase, in turn saving you money and time. The use of bamboo also helps the structure remain fairly streamline as well as adding interest into the design. The ends of the bamboo sticks were finished off with squares of bark pushed on for texture.

Jam pack a vase with wooden sticks of varied heights to also save you time and space in your arrangement. Attaching test tubes in various places expands the artistic license, not having to worry about the stems reaching the water. The materials used are durable so when the flowers die just replace them. A perfect interestingly different addition to your home.

Once Tracy got started she was in the zone, creating design after design. She was so keen to share her knowledge and inspire. Here are some more images to inspire you readers.
