Dennis van Wonderen - While At Tatton

Posted by Ophelia Harry on 13th Aug 2018

While talking to Dennis it was clear why he is so brilliant at what he does. As well as being a florist, Dennis also is a compère at the RHS shows. His humour and bubbly personality keeps you engaged, so brilliant for talking to a whole room when he or other florists are demonstrating. I did enjoy his entertaining approach on stage.

Where It All Began

Dennis’ passion for floristry began at the ripe age of 14. He grew up in Holland where the educational system seems more propelled, so attended college at 12 years taking an agricultural course. After this, at 14, he took a course focused more on floristry and from there his knowledge and skills just grew and grew! With all of this knowledge he opened a shop which he has been successfully running for 10years. Even though he is a busy man, he spends a lot of time in his shop greeting his customers and staying hands on with the floristry. This is by far his favourite part of the job and loves how he can “turn someone’s dream into a reality”.

The Team

In his shop you will find Dennis, a driver, a full-time florist, a part-time florist and a Saturday florist. Sometimes just being given a chance in life can change your whole path, so I asked Dennis whether he will take on non-qualified staff. Much to my delight he responded yes. If you have the passion, commitment and talent inside then it’s lovely to know Dennis may just be the man to change your life! Training on the job isn’t that common anymore but there are still individuals, like Dennis, that may give you that chance.

When asked what he wants to change in the industry, Dennis replied “wish that consumers would wake up and stop buying discount flowers”. Florists are amazing creative people that can bring you such joy. Use them or lose them.
