Elf on the Shelf 

Elf on the Shelf is a popular Christmas tradition in which children are given a special elf toy that comes to life and watches over them during the run up to Christmas. The elf then reports back to Santa Claus each night, telling him whether the child has been naughty or nice. This tradition is said to originate from the elf dolls that were popular in Victorian England.
