RHS Malvern Spring Show 2017: An Interview With Jonathan Moseley

Posted by Jessica Walton on 12th May 2017

Jonathan Moseley was the designer and arranger behind the flower fountain which took centre stage in the floral and shopping arcades that were sponsored by Country Baskets. The piece was simply stunning and it was an honour to be a part of such an amazing event.

How long have you been in the industry?

I started in the floristry business about 25 years ago now, 10 of those years working with Country Baskets, and honestly I’m living the dream. I studied Ancient History at university and worked for the building society before I got into floristry, which was just so dull to me. It’s the creativity that I strive for which I get from flowers!

How did you get involved in the industry?

My first memories of floristry were my mum’s friends flower shop and with my grandfather being a grower it was something I grew up with. So I guess it’s always been an interest that I wanted to pursue.

What was your inspiration for the piece?

As there is so much space I was given to play with I wanted to use as much of it as possible, hence the height of the piece. I also wanted to keep the industrial aspect that can be seen in the structure of the building, I did this by keeping the grid that the piece is suspended on visible. There was also the aspect of a modern theme that I wanted to incorporate, as it would be something that nobody at this show would have tried before.

What would you say your favourite flower is?

Definitely Snowdrops, they’re the first sign of Spring after the Winter and it means that everything is going to start again. Which is something I always look forwards to! There’s just something about the more fresh looking flowers that is uplifting and brings a room to life, that I really enjoy.
