The 9th of June brings us ‘World Wide Knit in Public Day’ so we have tried to get involved, only problem is, none of us can knit!

This minor issue was not going to stop us taking part in World Wide Knit in Public Day, so instead we went a little different with French knitting and macramé. A how-to video on French knitting plus a leather and macramé plant pot holder was the outcome, both two very easy alternatives that can be used differently in endless seperate home DIY/crafts.

World Wide Knit in Public Day – Done Right

World Wide Knit in Public Day began in 2005, a day for knitters to join together out of their solitary creativity, and bask in something much bigger than just them, while getting some fresh air too. Being a worldwide event, people everywhere can find their closest host for the day, or if there doesn’t seem to be one, well then you can register and start one.

In 2005 there were only 25 events that were registered and hosted, over the years this has increased dramatically with 2017 holding 1125 events across 54 countries. Knit is by far a dying skill, so come into store, grab some yarn and needles and get knitting (or macramé). Here is a link to find your nearest event; WWKIP Day

Can’t Knit - Don’t Worry

If you are like us in the studio and haven’t yet mastered how to knit, do not fear, here are some alternatives for you to try out or be inspired by.

French Knitting

The French knitting tool we have in our stores will make knitting simple for you. The tool allows you to simply create tubular knit and with that knitted tube you can do whatever you desire. Below we show you how to get started on your knitting quest and a few ideas that we have come across to transform your knitted tube.

Macrame Plant Pot Holder

Here is a little video to show you one way to macrame and using the same technique, how it can create multiple designs and patterns, the choice is yours. Macrame is on trend, with it being used predominantly in plant holders and wall hangings. It is a simple but effective addition to your home to add texture and interest. Here is the one we made, why not have a go yourself!

A very simple technique, but used in a different way can create such individual and beautiful designs. Playing with the media in which you use can also change the look, feel and functionality of the final design. You can make anything from on trend plant pot holders to fashionable wall hangings or even wired macramé blocks ready to incorporate into a florist design. The possibilities are endless, really.
