Festival of Flowers: The Country Baskets Experience

Posted by Jessica Walton on 3rd Oct 2017

Country Baskets are having a fabulous week at Leeds Castle in Kent, at this year’s Festival of Flowers. The theme of ‘An Enchanted Castle’ has been brought to life throughout the castle and the grounds, each installation captures the theme perfectly and reflects the ambience of the beautiful and historic castle. Country Baskets very own Chelsea winning medallist, Tracy Rowbottom, designed and created one of those gorgeous installations, filling the ruins of the Barbican with an abundance of faux flowers as apposed to fresh. Read all about it below…

With the opening to this year’s Festival of Flowers being a huge success, there is a real buzz around the use of artificial flowers being used to decorate the Barbican. We have been blown away by the response of the visitors of the castle, so many people couldn’t believe that the installation was created with artificial flowers as they really do look so realistic!

Tracy’s show-stopping piece uses the structure of the Barbican to secure the cascading installation to the walls and as a result compliments the ancient stone perfectly. The foundation of the piece is created using huge twisted vines, hundreds of faux roses, orchids and greenery are then placed within the vines to create a rustic and enchanted feel as it tumbles down the courtyard walls for the first time in the festivals history.

A festival isn’t complete without flower crowns, especially a Festival of Flowers! So alongside the installation, the Country Baskets team have set up a beautiful flower stand, right next to the Festival Marquee. The stand is filled with an array of gorgeous artificial flowers and greenery, and if you sign up as a customer we will show you how to create your very own flower crown for free! This has been a huge success so far this week, with hundreds of flower crowns being created and the castle grounds being filled with visitors wearing them!

With the Festival of Flowers expanding across the grounds of the castle this year, we’re both proud to be a part of the development and excited to see what the organisers will be planning for the years to come. It has been a pleasure to visit the castle and see all of the beautiful installations that have been created by talented florists from all over the world. If you’re visiting Kent this week, we would highly recommend visiting the castle for the Festival of Flowers, as you are guaranteed to have a fantastic time
