Southport Flower Show - Our Experience

Posted by Ophelia Harry on 23rd Aug 2018

As newbies to Southport Flower Show we went in blind but came out with beaming smiles excited to return next year. Although it was our first time we got stuck in to dressing the bandstand, creating hangings for the chefs area and sponsoring all the sundries for the table centers used in the VIP area. In addition to this we sponsored the well loved Wesley Street in Southport with flowers to decorate the sign. We had so much going on but loved every minute of it, and we would love to return.

Our Stand

We were super pleased with our spot, right by the bandstand and next to the celebrity theatre entrance. Having a little front garden was an added bonus, with our very own little picket fence. Perfect spot for our outdoor products such as fairy picks and our resin animals that sold very well. The tent itself was full of flowers with shelves filled with ornaments and sundries. It was an eye catching stall that could be spotted from afar. Perched on the edge of the path I sat, basket full of silk flower heads, showing the willing how to make their own flower crown. A nice part of the week and happy to see the children getting so creative!

With a lot of activities going on at Southport there was so much to see and hear. The main stage could be heard from our tent which kept us entertained on a daily basis. The singers/choirs were amazing! Walking past our tent we saw many a mythical and enchanting storybook character. Alice and the Queen of Hearts had escaped the wonderland for the week, joined by the Mad Hatter to entertain the adults as well as the children.

So Much to See

Everyone had gone all out taking the theme ‘Once upon a time’ and creating such wonderful pieces. Walking through the Floral Art tent was magical with all the competing pieces taking you into another world. The Grand Floral Marquee held some incredible works of art, giant bunnies, sleeping beauties and catwalks of pure imagination. Jackie Walker and Ann Coulton spoke to us about the catwalk, telling us of the details and the process for some pieces. Look out for a mini post on this.

A beautiful remake of sleeping beauty.

I'm late I'm late for a very important date!

Overall it was a delightful week, and more than worth the hard work we put in at the start. As always we were graced with many lovely people and it was a very successful week. The same team from Tatton was at Southport, swapping Tracy Rowbottom for Julie Pearson for the demonstrations. We hope to return next year to Southport Flower Show, it’s been our pleasure!
